We are overhauling our tickets and payment methods

We are overhauling the purchase and use of tickets and upgrading our back-end systems. Contactless payment is being introduced as a new option. The overhaul will enable new options for digital transactions and self-service. We will be able to develop new services in a more agile manner as the digital sales system will adapt flexibly to future needs.

Tickets will continue to be available via the HSL app, from HSL card readers, online at the HSL Ticket Store, and from service points, R-kiosks, and S Group stores.

This page contains information about the changes and new services brought about by the project.

New readers replace the old ones

We are replacing all card readers on public transport and at stations. Initially, tickets are purchased on the new card readers just like before, using the value on the HSL card. First, you select the zones and then present your HSL card to the reader. Contactless payment will be introduced later.

The main change is that the new card reader shows the zone buttons on two screens in zones B, C, and D. You can move between the screens using the arrow on the right side of the screen.

Multi-user HSL cards will be discontinued

The multi-user HSL cards will be discontinued. In the future, all tickets will be personal. If you have a personal HSL card, you can continue using it as usual. You can check which card you have on our website.

Online store to be temporarily closed

The online HSL card top-up service will be temporarily closed from 31 December 2024. The range of tickets available via the online service has already been reduced. As of 16 October, only season tickets are available via the online service. Tickets purchased via the old online store cannot be transferred to the HSL card at the new card readers. You can make the transfer at the large HSL ticket machines, R-kiosks, and at Alepa, S-market and Prisma stores.

New online ticket store under development

The new HSL Ticket Store will allow you to buy season tickets and value onto your HSL card easily. Tickets will be available for all zones and customer groups. The tickets are valid on all modes of transport. Tickets and value purchased via the new online store will no longer need to be transferred separately to the HSL card. The opening day of the new ticket store has not been confirmed yet, but we will announce it well in advance.

Changes and new services will be introduced in phases

Unfortunately, we must discontinue some services before we can introduce replacements or launch new services. The schedule for the changes has not yet been confirmed, but we will inform our customers about each change well in advance. We apologize for any inconvenience caused during this transition period.

HSL app

The HSL app makes traveling easy. The app allows you to buy tickets, check your routes, and keep up-to-date with any service changes. You can download the HSL app for free from your appstore.

Tickets and zones

There will be no changes to tickets or discount groups. Initially, pricing is based on zones A, B, C, and D. Later, a new zone E will be established in Järvenpää and the northern parts of Tuusula and Sipoo. Read more about the zones

All existing ticket options will continue to be available: single, multi-journey, day, and season tickets can all be purchased via the HSL app. A new online HSL Ticket Store will be opened, offering season tickets and value top-ups for the HSL card. Single and day tickets will continue to be available from R-kiosks and service points, as well as S-market, Alepa, and Prisma stores. In addition, adult single tickets can be purchased at card readers using contactless payment. More information about tickets and ticket prices
