How to start using the app

A range of tickets to suit your needs

The HSL app provides ticket options to suit all needs. A single ticket is suitable for individual journeys and a day ticket for several journeys within a short period of time. The best options for more regular travel needs is a season ticket or a multi-journey ticket, which is only available via the app. Season tickets are also available on a subscription basis, in which case the ticket is automatically renewed and it is always valid.  When you commit to a season ticket for a year and set up an auto-renewing saver subscription, you get get the ticket for a lower monthly price.

Find routes and stay up to date

Journey Planner – your best travel companion

The HSL app Journey Planner gives you the best routes and shows where your bus or tram is in real-time. The Journey Planner also tells you which ticket you need for your journey.

Stay up to date

On the HSL app, you can see changes to the routes and timetables of your favorite routes as well as other public transport news in one glance. By enabling app notifications, you get the updates even if the app is closed.

Instructions for using the app

Buy your ticket on the HSL app before boarding a vehicle

Please remember that you must have your ticket on your phone before you board a bus, tram, or train, or enter the Suomenlinna ferry pier or the Metro platform area. At most Metro stations, the payment area begins at the HSL card readers at the top of the escalators to the platforms.

Your phone must have enough battery power for the duration of the journey. You may be issued with a penalty fare if you order your ticket when you are already on board a vehicle, on an escalator down to a Metro station, or on the ferry pier, or if your ticket cannot be inspected because your phone is out of battery.

When boarding a blue bus, show the HSL app ticket display to the driver. On commuter trains, the metro, trams and on the orange trunk route buses you only need to show your ticket if a ticket inspector or conductor asks you to do so.
