This is how public transport will operate in 2024–2025
HSL’s Transport Service Plan for 2024–2025 has been published. The plan sets out changes to public transport services from 2024 to June 2025.

Trains, buses and trams to run more frequently
New tramway
We are preparing for the launch of tram route 13 in autumn 2024. The new tram will run between Pasila and Kalasatama.
Replacement services
There will be service changes to the metro, trains and trams in summer 2024
Metro
There are no planned changes to the regular metro service. However, there will be service changes due to planned works in summer 2024. We will provide extensive replacement services during the works.
Metro services through the Central Railway Station metro station will be disrupted from 3 June to 1 September due to remedial works related to fire safety at the station. The metro will run between University of Helsinki and East Helsinki as well as between Kamppi and Kivenlahti.
Tram 9B will run between Jätkäsaari and Ensi Linja via the Central Railway Station and will replace the Metro when it does not operate between University of Helsinki and Kamppi stations.
There will be changes to metro services between Itäkeskus and Mellunmäki due to the renovation of the Mellunmäki metro brigde and Kontula metro station and due to other bridge work. Mellunmäki metro station will be closed for the entire summer. During the key stage of the works, the metro will not operate between Itäkeskus and Mellunmäki. At other stages, the trains will terminate either at Myllypuro or Kontula station. Metro services will be replaced by bus 99M. We will also provide additional services on bus routes 92, 94 and 95.
The metro stations will remain closed as follows:
- Central Railway Station: 3 June to 1 September
- Mellunmäki: 3 June to 8 September
- Kontula: 24 June to 4 August
- Myllypuro: 8 July to 4 August
The Metro will operate as follows during the summer:
3 to 26 June: Central Railway Station and Mellunmäki metro stations will be closed
- University of Helsinki – Kontula (services will run every 10 minutes), University of Helsinki – Vuosaari (services will run every 10 minutes), University of Helsinki – Itäkeskus (services will run every 5 minutes).
- Kamppi–Kivenlahti (services will run every 6 minutes, outside peak hours every 7.5 minutes)
24 June to 7 July: Central Railway Station, Mellunmäki and Kontula metro stations will be closed

Trains
There will be many improvements to train services during 2024. However, in summer 2024, there will also be service changes and disruptions due to the construction of the Espoo City Rail Link and track works in Tikkurila.
From the beginning of April 2024, A trains will run every 10 minutes Monday to Friday also between 9am and 3pm. Moreover, Monday to Friday between 6pm and 9.30pm and on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 9.30pm, the trains will run every 20 minutes. The operating hours of A trains will be extended: on Saturdays, services will start at about 7.30am, on Sundays at about 8.30am, and the trains will run until about 11pm everyday. In addition, some L trains will be replaced by U trains.
From the beginning of April 2024, L trains will run 30 minutes later, i.e. until about 0.30am Monday to Thursday and on Sundays. On Friday and Saturday nights, L trains from Helsinki will run every 30 minutes until about 4am. On Saturdays and Sundays, the trains will run every 30 minutes from about 5am. Some L trains will be replaced by U trains when the operating hours of A trains are extended.
From the beginning of April 2024, E trains will run an hour later every day. On Sundays, services will start 30 minutes earlier than currently. The combined headways of E and U trains between Helsinki and Kauklahti will be 15 minutes everyday until about 10.30pm, on Sundays from 10am.
From the beginning of April 2024, X trains will be turned into Y trains, enabling faster services to Siuntio and Kirkkonummi. The trains will no longer stop at stations between Leppävaara and Espoo or between Masala and Kirkkonummi. E and U trains will provide replacement service. The combined headways of the trains is 15 minutes.
From October 2024, once the track works in Tikkurila have been completed, I and P trains will start running every 10 minutes also Monday to Saturday 7pm to 9.30pm and on Sundays 10.30am to 8.30pm. In addition, new services will be added in the morning and evening so that the trains will run every 15 minutes.
From October 2024, once the track works in Tikkurila have been completed, K trains will start running every 10 minutes also Monday to Saturday 7pm to 9.30pm and on Sundays 10.30am to 8.30pm. In addition, new services will be added in the morning and evening so that the trains will run every 15 minutes.
Trains will not run between Leppävaara, Kirkkonummi and Siuntio from 24 June to 28 July 2024. All train services will be replaced by buses. Moreover, in August–September, there will be similar disruptions to train services on five weekends.
The following service changes will be in place from 2 April to 26 October 2024. I, P and K trains will operate a reduced service running every 20 minutes. On the section of line from Helsinki via Myyrmäki to Helsinki Airport, P trains will turn at Helsinki Airport and run back as I trains Monday to Friday 5am to 10pm, on Saturdays 9am to 10pm and on Sundays 10am to 7pm. At these times, the trains will run every 10 minutes on the section of line from Helsinki via Myyrmäki to Helsinki Airport.
Between 29 August and 25 October 2024, train services will be disrupted between Tikkurila and Kerava on some nights. Trains will be replaced by buses.
Light rail
The service frequency of light rail 15 will gradually increase during 2024, at first to every eight minutes. From autumn 2024, the light rail will operate every six minutes.
Trams
We are preparing for the launch of tram route 13 in autumn 2024. The new tram will run between Kalasatama and Pasila. Street work on Mannerheimintie will affect tram services.
The current diversion route via Kamppi metro station will be made permanent. Tram 2 will run between Aleksanterinkatu and Hanken via the Central Railway Station and Kamppi metro station also in the future.
The tram network will extend to Kalasatama with the introduction of a new tram service (13, Nihti–Kalasatama–Pasila). The new service will connect the metro (Kalasatama) and Pasila railway station and also provide new interchange links. The tram will run every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 12 minutes on Sundays. The detailed operating hours will be determined in spring 2024. We are preparing for the service to launch in autumn 2024. When tram route 13 starts, bus 59 will be rerouted to Herttoniemi.
Trams 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 will start running every 10 minutes instead of every 12 minutes on Saturdays between 12 noon and 6pm. The service frequency will be the same as before the Covid 19 pandemic.
The first phase of the renovation began in spring 2023 and it will continue until autumn 2024.
In summer 2024, trams will be diverted away from the Opera junction. Trams 2, 4 and 10 will run via the Töölö depot and Ruusulankatu. Tram 1 will run via Hakaniemi and Kallio. Tram 9B will run from Jätkäsaari to Ensi Linja via Länsilinkki and the Central Railway Station and will replace the Metro when it does not operate between University of Helsinki and Kamppi stations. Replacement bus 8X will follow the normal route of tram 8. The exact effects of the works on tram services will be detailed later.
The traffic arrangements will change in autumn 2024. The plan is that tram 4 would run between the Opera and Töölö depot via Alppila and tram 2 would initially run via Helsinginkatu and Aleksis Kiven katu. Tram 10 would run between Kirurgi and Töölön halli only. Tram 3 would have its northern terminus relocated from Kuusitie in Meilahti to Pikku Huopalahti to replace tram 10 between Töölön tulli and Pikku Huopalahti. The exact effects of the works on tram services will be detailed later.
We are preparing for a disruption to tram services on Siltasaarenkatu in Hakaniemi in spring 2025 due to the construction of the Kruunusillat tramway. The exact effects on tram services will be detailed later.
Buses
Service frequency will increase on many bus routes. There will also be other changes.
On Sundays between 10am and 7pm, the service frequency will increase from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes from 12 August 2024.
During the summer timetable season, the buses will run every 30 minutes throughout the day. Between the Lauttasaari metro station and Katajaharju, the buses will run every 15 minutes. The usual more frequent peak time service will not operate in the summer because there are less commuters and no schoolchildren going to school.
The bus will be rerouted in northern Malminkartano to run straight along Naapurinpellontie. The bus will no longer run from Kartanonmetsäntie via Kaarnatie, Pihkatie and Neulastie because the streets are narrow and the City of Helsinki has proposed that buses should not run in the area. The exact timing of the change is not yet known.
In the summer, the bus will run every 15 minutes on Saturdays.
The terminus of the route will move from Sompasaari to Herttoniemi in autumn 2024, when tram 13 starts running. The exact timing of the change is not yet known.
The bus will be rerouted in northern Malminkartano to run straight along Naapurinpellontie. The bus will no longer run from Kartanonmetsäntie via Kaarnatie, Pihkatie and Neulastie because the streets are narrow and the City of Helsinki has proposed that buses should not run in the area. The exact timing of the change is not yet known.
The weekday daytime service frequency will increase from every 12–15 minutes to every 10 minutes from 12 August 2024. On Saturdays, the service frequency will increase from every 15 minutes to every 12 minutes. In addition, we are considering increasing the peak time service frequency to 8 minutes for the last two weeks of the summer season, i.e. at the beginning of August, to ensure sufficient peak time capacity.
The terminus will be relocated to the Yhdyskunnantie/Vanha Tuusulantie roundabout, where the City of Helsinki will build a new stop. The exact timing of the change is not yet known. The change will facilitate interchanges to buses operating along Tuusulanväylä and to trunk bus route 560.
We are preparing for increasing passenger numbers by adding one more vehicle on the route at peak times. This timing of the change depends on the progress of construction in the surroundings of the former Malmi airport. The exact timing of the change is not yet known.
We are preparing to relocate the termini of the bus routes about one kilometer to the north from the current termini at Malmi train station. The new location could be, for example, in the Pikitehtaankortteli area. The change will take effect at the earliest on 12 August 2024.
We are preparing for increasing passenger numbers by adding one more vehicle on the route at peak times. In addition, on Sundays, the bus will revert to running ever 20 minutes instead of every 30 minutes. The timing of this change depends on the progress of construction in the surroundings of the former Malmi airport. The exact timing of the change is not yet known.
The buses will run every 10 minutes instead of every 12 minutes at peak times. The change will take effect on 12 August 2024.
The buses will run every 15 minutes Monday to Sunday in the summer.
The routes will be merged into a new bus route 163. The new route will be extended to Kauklahti. The bus will run through Espoonlahti and provide a link from Kurtinniityntie to Kauklahti station. In Espoonlahti, the bus will run along Espoonlahdenkatu. Kipparinkatu will no longer be served. The bus will run via Kungsgårdsskolan. The change will take place on 12 August 2024.
Bus route 147 will be withdrawn and bus 158 will be rerouted to run via Kivenlahti metro station and Laurinlahti to Espoonlahti metro station. In the future, passengers travelling from Laurinlahti will be able to change to the metro in Kivenlahti and in Espoonlahti. The new route will also provide a faster connection from Tillinmäki to Kivenlahti metro station. Bus 542 will replace the withdrawn route 147 between Soukka and Espoonlahti. The bus will start running more frequently.
Bus 158 will run every 15 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays and every 30 minutes on Sundays.
The changes will take place on 12 August 2024.
We are considering increasing the weekend service frequency as of 12 August 2024. On Saturdays, the buses would run every 12 minutes instead of every 15 minutes, on Sundays, every 15 minutes instead of every 20 minutes. On the shared section of the routes between Herttoniemi and Munkkiniemi, the buses would run about every 6 minutes on Saturdays and every 7–8 minutes on Sundays.
In the summer, bus 522 will run every 30 minutes everyday and bus 522B will run every 30 minutes Monday to Friday.
The bus will run every 20 minutes Monday to Sunday in the summer.
We are preparing to add one vehicle at peak times to improve punctuality and service in Nuottaniemi.
During weekday daytime and Saturdays, the service frequency will increase from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes. On Sundays, the service frequency will increase from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes. The change will improve transport links between district centers in Espoo and make leisure journeys easier.
The change will take place on 12 August 2024.
The bus will start running on Sundays from 12 August 2024. The service frequency will be the same as on Saturdays: early in the morning every 30 minutes, during the daytime every 20 minutes. The peak-time service 611B (Rautatientori–Suutarila) will be withdrawn and all services will operate under route number 611.
Bus 643K will start running on weekends from the beginning of April 2024. The bus will run every 60 minutes.
We are preparing to increase the weekday peak time service frequency of bus 643 from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes or every 25 minutes.
Bus 711 will start operating on weekends under route number 711K from the beginning of April 2024. Bus 711K will serve Jakomäki and Heikinlaakso. Transport links to Helsinki Outlet will also improve.
The bus will run between Tikkurila and Kuusijärvi from the beginning of May until the end of October on Saturdays and Sundays. The bus will get a new terminus at the Kuusijärvi parking site. Laurintie and Vanha Porvoontie will not be served.
The weekend daytime service frequency will increase from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes from 12 August 2024.
New bus route 962 (Kerava–Rykmentinportti–Hyrylä) will start in autumn 2024. The services are adjusted to the work shifts of employees working in the Rykmentinpuisto employment area. The bus will run about four times a day per direction.
We will introduce a new peak time bus route 963B, which will run Monday to Friday in the morning and afternoon peak times between Kerava train station and Hyrylä.
We are preparing to start weekend service on routes 977 and 977V every 60 minutes to serve the growing neighborhood of Kytömaa from 12 August 2024. The need for services will be assessed in more detail as the construction of the area progresses.
The terminus of the route will be moved from the Opintie terminal to the Miili terminal in Söderkulla from 12 August 2024 because the Opintie branch of the Sipoonlahti School has been closed.
The new bus station located on Rykmentin puistotie to the east of Tuusulanväylä, about 200 meters from the current bus station, is expected to be completed in August 2024. All Hyrylä bus routes will be rerouted to run via the new bus station.
Services will start running more frequently on Sundays from 17 June 2024. The service frequency will be the same as on Saturdays. In addition, bus 173Z, which provides a fast feeder service to the metro, will start running on Sundays.
We are preparing to improve crosstown bus services that run along Ring I at the earliest from 12 August 2024. Detailed plans will be made in early 2024.
We are preparing for traffic delays and diversions on Koirasaarentie and Laajasalontie in Laajasalo.
We are also preparing for bus diversions and delays to bus services in Hakaniemi. Northbound buses will be diverted via John Stenbergin ranta until spring 2025. Arrangements for bus services during the disruption to tram services in spring 2025 will be planned during 2024.
We are preparing for traffic delays and diversions due to street works on Linnanrakentajantie in autumn 2024.
We are preparing for continued traffic delays due to the renovation of Mannerheimintie. During the works, only one lane is open in each direction. In addition, bus stops have to be moved as the works progress. Buses 63, 212, 213 and 213N continue to run via Runeberginkatu and Topeliuksenkatu. Trunk bus route 400 terminates at the Kamppi terminal. The works on Mannerheimintie may also affect U line buses running from Kamppi.
We are preparing for construction work at Leppävaara bus terminal, expansion of the Sello shopping center and the construction of a new car park. The Leppävaara bus terminal will be relocated for the duration of the construction work. The new location will be determined later. The exact timing of the works is not yet known.
We are preparing for bus diversion and traffic delays from spring 2024.
Ferries
There are no planned changes to the ferry services.
