Track work at Tikkurila to end on 27 October – Improvements to commuter train services and changes to timetables of buses serving train stations

The Main Line and Ring Rail Line commuter train services will return to normal on 27 October when the maintenance and improvement works conducted by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency in Tikkurila are completed. I, P and K trains will resume their normal timetable on the Main Line and Ring Rail Line. In addition, the weekend service frequency of I and P trains will increase.

Commuter trains will run every five minutes at peak times between Hiekkaharju and Pasila and between Hiekkaharju and Kerava every ten minutes. On the Ring Rail Line, the weekend service frequency will increase.

At the same time, all I and P trains will again start running the whole line from Helsinki via Helsinki Airport back to Helsinki. During the track work, some trains have terminated at the airport instead of running the entire length of the line. In addition, all trains will resume serving Vehkala station.

Please note that track work will continue to be carried out on some nights. We advise passengers to check the Journey Planner at hsl.fi or the HSL app for up-to-date information.

Bus timetables in Vantaa, Tuusula, Kerava and northeast Helsinki will also change on Monday 28 October to reflect the new train timetables. There will be changes to the timetables for bus routes  560, 561, 562, 571, 574, 583, 584, 587, 600, 614, 617, 623, 624, 624N, 633, 643, 643K, 665, 665A, 665K, 721, 721N, 731, 731N, 734, 736, 736B, 739, 961, 961B, 963, 965, 965K, 967, 967K, 971, 971B, 972, 973, 975, 975N, 976, 977V, 978, 978K and 985.

Track work and construction of new tracks are part of a larger project

The work at Tikkurila station is part of the project of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency to increase the rail capacity between Helsinki and Riihimäki. The project aims to improve the reliability of services on the busiest section of railway in Finland by increasing its capacity and to reduce the line’s vulnerability to disruptions.

The end goal is to have four tracks along the line section instead of the current three tracks. Work is mainly conducted between April and October. Different platforms are closed at different phases of the work. In addition, trains run at reduced speed through the area.
