Laajasalo Route Network Plan

Laajasalo is facing major changes as population in the area grows. The Kruunusillat tram services will start approximately in 2027, but there will be changes to public transport services in the area already before that. On this page we tell about changes to bus routes and timetables in Laajasalo before the completion of the Kruunusillat Bridges and the tram services start running.

An active dialogue with the local residents is at the heart of the planning. The most important interaction channel for the route network plan for Laajasalo is a blog written by public transport planners. The blog is mainly in Finnish, with some posts in English.

How to participate?

In order for the new routes to meet our customers' needs as well as possible, we need as much assistance as possible from people who live or travel in the area.

There will be many opportunities to participate in the planning.

In the initial planning phase, we aim to improve our understanding of the current and future mobility needs in the area. In autumn 2020, we conducted a travel survey for people who live or travel in Laajasalo. We also held two resident workshops.

We will soon publish a draft route network plan on the blog for the plan (in Finnish).

In addition, we will hold more resident workshops in spring 2022 if need be.

How will the project proceed?

We will develop the plan during spring 2022.

The plan was on hold from December 2020 to December 2021 because we needed information about the routes and service frequencies of the Kruunusillat tram services to plan the bus routes. Our Executive Board decided on the routes and service frequencies in December 2021 when it approved the second tram route network plan.

In the initial planning phase, we aim to improve our understanding of the current and future mobility needs in the area. We have gathered initial data and asked for residents’ views, for example, through the autumn 2020 travel survey and resident workshops. On the basis of the information gathered, we have developed a draft bus route plan for the situation where the Kruunusilta tram services have started running.

We will publish the draft route network plan on the blog in April 2022 (in Finnish) and will ask for comments on the draft through a survey.

We will gather comments on the draft route network plan and revise the draft together with our customers.

Once the plan is completed, our Executive Board will discuss it.
