New bus routes to launch in Espoo in August
New bus routes will launch in Espoo on 14 August 2023. There will be changes especially in Leppävaara and Tapiola, but the new trunk bus routes 520 and 530 will also affect bus routes in other parts of Espoo.
Below you can read more about the changes by route and area.
Why the changes?
- We want to ensure effective public transport links between Tapiola and Leppävaara also after the introduction of light rail line 15.
- We want to ensure that other bus routes and the new trunk bus routes 520 and 530 operate well together.
- We want to plan public transport services that cater to the needs of as many people as possible in the area.
- We want to take account of the impacts of route network plans for the surrounding areas.

Bus 531 will be rerouted to run via Saarniraivio and it will terminate at Espoon keskus instead of the Jorvi Hospital.
Bus route 565 will be withdrawn and replaced by trunk bus route 530. In Espoon keskus, the stops served by trunk bus route 530 will be located on Kirkkojärventie to the north of the railway line instead of Espoontori, where the stops served by bus 565 are.
Bus route 112 will be withdrawn and there will no longer be direct links to Tapiola from some of the stops in Haukilahti. The route of bus 111 will not change in Westend and the areas nearby but the bus will terminate at the Matinkylä bus terminal. Bus 533 will run between Matinkylä (M) and Hyljelahti. Passengers travelling from Haukilahdenranta to Tapiola can, for example, take bus 114 and change to the metro or bus 124 or 125 in Niittykumpu.
Bus 104 will be replaced by bus 105. Bus 105 will follow the same route as bus 104 between Lauttasaari (M), Westend and Haukilahti. From Haukilahti, the bus will run to Mankkaa via Niittykumpu Metro Station. The new bus route will reinstate feeder services from Haukilahti and Westend to Lauttasaari on weekends and provide a welcome bus link from Haukilahti to the Niittykumpu Metro Station.
The route of bus 111 will be shortened. The new route is Matinkylä (M) – Haukilahti – Westend – Tapiola (M). The extension of the West Metro has improved especially transport links from Hyljelahti (Finnoo) to Tapiola.
The route of bus 533 will be extended from Matinkylä to Hyljelahti. The new route is Hyljelahti – Finnoo (M) – Matinkylä (M) – Kauniainen – Järvenperä. The change will improve crosstown transport links from Hyljelahti and Finnoo to e.g. Olari and Suurpelto. Transport links to the Espoo International School and to the coastal line will also improve.
The new trunk bus route 530 will provide service from Hämevaara to Myyrmäki, Espoon keskus and Matinkylä from autumn 2023. Bus routes 565 and 565B will be withdrawn and replaced by trunk bus route 530.

Depending on the origin and destination, buses 520 and 544 can be used as alternatives.
Bus 124 was rerouted via Friisinkallio already in February 2022. The change will enable transport links between Olari, Espoonlahti, Nöykkiö and Finnoo when bus route 543 is withdrawn in autumn 2023.
Bus routes 532 and 544 will be merged into a new crosstown route 544, which will run from Leppävaara via Karamalmi, Ring II, Länsiväylä, Kaitaa, Soukka and Espoonlahti to Kivenlahti. The new route of bus 544 will follow the route of bus 532 from Leppävaara via Turuntie, Karaniityntie, Karapellontie, Karamalmintie, Nihtisillantie and Nihtisilta to Ring II.
In Hannus, the bus will run via Finnoonsilta and Kaitaantie serving Finnoo Metro Station. The new route will improve transport links from the Karamalmi employment area to Espoonlahti as well as transport links between Leppävaara and Espoonlahti.
The operating hours of bus route 544 will be extended and the bus will also run during the daytime, in the evening and on weekends.
The rush hour / daytime / Saturday / Sunday headways will be:
15 / 20 / 30 / 30 minutes.
In autumn 2023, trunk bus route 550 will continue running until light rail line operates frequently enough. However, the terminus of the route will move from Westendinasema to Keilaniemi on 14 August.
A new bus route 523 will run from Leppävaara via Ring I and Tapiola to Westendinasema, replacing the withdrawn section of route 550 from Tapiola to Westendinasema.
Bus route 555 will be withdrawn in August 2023. Bus 550 will continue to provide journeys from Leppävaara to Keilaniemi.
Trunk bus route 520 will run from Leppävaara to Myyrmäki, buses 522 and 522B from Leppävaara to Hämevaara. Trunk bus route 550 and later light rail line 15 will provide journeys from Leppävaara to Otaniemi and Keilaniemi.
Bus routes 565 and 565B will be withdrawn and replaced by trunk bus route 530. In Espoon keskus, the stops served by trunk bus route 530 will be located on Kirkkojärventie to the north of the railway line instead of Espoontori, where the stops now served by bus 565 are.
Trunk bus route 530 will not serve all stops now served by buses 565 and 565B. However, other buses will continue to serve all of the stops not served by trunk bus route 530, i.e. no stops will be left unserved.
Timetables
The detailed timetables of the new routes will be available in the Journey Planner after 1 July 2023.
