Changes to R and T train services at and north of Kerava at night between 26 January and 21 February

There will be platform changes at Kerava station on Sunday to Thursday nights between 26 January and 21 February. Between 11.30pm and 5.20am, commuter trains to Helsinki will depart from platform 4. Additionally, on the nights of Thursday 30 January, and Monday 3 February, there will be other changes to R and T train services. Due to track improvement work between Helsinki and Riihimäki, platforms 1, 2 and 3 at Kerava station will be closed between 11.30pm and 5.20am on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights between 26 January and 21 February.

  • R and Z trains to Helsinki, which usually depart from platform 1, will depart from platform 4.


The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency is responsible for the work.

Additionally, there will also be more extensive changes to R and T train services on two nights at the end of January/beginning of February due to maintenance work carried out by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency:

On the night of Thursday 30 January


The 0.40am R train from Helsinki and 1.51am T train from Helsinki will terminate at Kerava.

  • Journeys from Kerava towards Järvenpää and Riihimäki:
    • Replacement bus 969X will run from Kerava to Järvenpää via the intermediate stations. The bus will depart from Kerava at 1.08 and and 2.34am.
    • From Järvenpää, you can continue by the 1.30am R train and 3.04am T train to Riihiimäki.

The 2.55am T train from Riihimäki to Helsinki is cancelled.

  • Journeys from Riihimäki towards Helsinki:
    • The 2.33am T train from Riihimäki runs to Järvenpää.
    • From Järvenpää, you can continue by replacement bus 969X, which will depart at 3.09am and run to Kerava via the intermediate stations.
    • The bus links with the 3.32am T train to Helsinki.

The 3.55am T train from Riihimäki will depart five minutes later than usual at 4am. The train will depart from Jokela at 4.14am. From Kerava, the train will continue to Helsinki at 4.32am as usual.

On the night of Monday 3 February


The 0.40am R train from Helsinki and 1.51am T train from Helsinki will terminate at Kerava.

  • Journeys from Kerava towards Järvenpää and Riihimäki:
    • Replacement bus 969X will run from Kerava to Järvenpää via the intermediate stations. The bus will depart from Kerava at 1.08 and and 2.33am.

The T train, which usually departs from Riihimäki to Helsinki at 2.55am, is cancelled between Riihimäki and Kerava. The train usually stops at Jokela at 3.12am. The train will depart from Kerava as usual at 3.32am.

  • Journeys from Riihimäki towards Helsinki:
    • Replacement bus 969X will depart from Riihmäki at 2.48am and run to Kerava via the intermediate stations.
    • From Kerava, you can continue by the 4.05am K train to Helsinki.

The 3.55am T train from Riihimäki will depart five minutes later than usual at 4am. The train will depart from Jokela at 4.14am. From Kerava, the train will continue to Helsinki at 4.32am as usual.

Replacement bus 969X

You can board the train replacement buses also through the middle doors. If you have a valid ticket, you do not need to show it to the driver. The same HSL and VR tickets are accepted on the replacement buses as on the trains.

The changes are part of a larger project

The track work is part of the project of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency to increase the rail capacity between Helsinki and Riihimäki.

The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of the busiest section of railway in Finland and to reduce the line’s vulnerability to disruptions.

Once the project is completed, the section of line between Kerava and Riihimäki will be four tracks.
