Trams 1 and 1T to run via Kruununhaka and Aleksanterinkatu from 6 June

As of Thursday 6 June, trams 1 and 1T will run via Kruununhaka and Aleksanterinkatu. The trams will no longer serve the “Rautatieasema”, “Kaisaniemenkatu” and “Kaisaniemenpuisto” stops. The purpose of the route change is to facilitate tram services on Kaivokatu.

The change affects trams 1 and 1T. Tram 1 to Eira will operate on weekdays until 14 June. Tram 1T that is currently serving the West Terminal on weekends will operate also on weekdays from 17 June to 11 August.

The following stops will no longer be served: “Rautatieasema” (H0301/H0302), “Kaisaniemenkatu” (H0303/H0304) and “Kaisaniemenpuisto” (H0305/H0306). The trams will serve the following stops along the new route: “Ylioppilastalo” (H0401/H0402), “Aleksanterinkatu” (H0403/H0404), “Senaatintori” (H0405/H0406), “Hallituskatu” (H0450/H0451), “Kansallisarkisto” (H0452/H0453) and “Snellmaninkatu” (H0454/H0455).

The purpose of the  route change is to facilitate tram services on Kaivokatu. The street has suffered from congestion after the tram diversion routes were introduced on 3 June. The situation will improve once tram 1 starts running via Aleksanterinkatu. The new route will not have a negative impact on tram services for instance between the University of Helsinki and Kamppi Metro Stations.

The route change will remain in place until 1 September, at which point new tram diversion routes will be introduced due to the Mannerheimintie street works and trams 1 and 1T will again start running via Töölö.
