Higher service frequency for A trains from 2 April

Starting 2 April, A trains will run every 10 minutes during the daytime on weekdays. The service frequency will also be improved in the evenings and on weekends, with trains operating every 20 minutes. In addition, two new A train services will be introduced in the morning peak, one departing from Helsinki and the other from Leppävaara.

The number of weekday A train services between 9am and 3pm will double, meaning that the trains will operate every 10 minutes instead of the current 20 minutes. Weekday trains between 6pm and 9.30pm and Saturday/Sunday trains between 10am and 9.30pm will operate every 20 minutes instead of the current 30 minutes. In addition, two new A train services will be introduced in the morning peak, one departing from Helsinki at 6.33am and the other from Leppävaara at 6.56am. The trains will continue to operate every 10 minutes during peak times.

We will also extend the operating hours of A trains. In the future, the trains will begin operating at 7.30am on Saturdays and approximately at 8.30am on Sundays. In the evenings, the trains will continue to operate until approximately 11pm every day. Moreover, certain L trains will be merged into U trains. Furthermore, new E and U train services will begin operating on the Coastal Railway line and all X trains will be replaced with Y trains.

The A trains operate between Helsinki and Leppävaara. The new timetables are already available in the Journey Planner.

The changes are a part of a larger whole with the purpose of improving public transport services during 2024. The improvements will mostly affect evening and weekend services. The aim is to facilitate leisure journeys. More information on the changes.
