Changes to services

From the direction of Helsinki

  • K trains from Helsinki at 0.21am, 0.51am and 1.21am as well as the 1.51am T train from Helsinki will terminate at Tapanila station. The 1.21am K train is an extra service.
  • All the above K and T trains link with replacement bus route 699X, which departs from Malmi every half hour between 0.40am and 2.10am and runs to Kerava via the intermediate stations.
  • The buses will depart from bay 20 in Ala-Malmin tori. The bay is located near Malmitalo and the Malmin Nova shopping center. However, we recommend that you change between bus and train at Tapanila station instead of Malmi, as that way the walk will be shorter.
  • From Kerava, you can continue to Riihimäki by the 3.03am T train.
  • Additionally, bus 699X from Malmi at 1.40am and 2.10am will run via Ainola to Järvenpää.

At Helsinki Airport, you can access the bus terminal and the stop for bus 570 (bay 40) straight from the Arrivals hall by exiting between the Alepa grocery store and the R-kiosk.

Replacement buses

You can board the buses also through the middle doors. You do not need to show your valid ticket to the driver. You can use the same tickets as for the trains when travelling on a replacement bus, that is, valid tickets of both HSL and VR.

Replacement bus 699X

The bus will depart from bay 20 in Ala-Malmin tori. The bay is located near Malmitalo and the Malmin Nova shopping center. However, we recommend that you change between bus and train at Tapanila station instead of Malmi, as that way the walk will be shorter. In Tapanila, you can access the buses from the covered end of the platform i.e. from the direction of the overpass. Follow the signs in the direction of Päivöläntie. At Kerava station, the buses to Tikkurila and Malmi will depart from bay 12.

The buses will stop at every intermediate station except the Hiekkaharju station. In Hiekkaharju, the buses will stop at the “Malmimäki” bus stops next to Hiekkaharju School on Talvikkitie. From Tikkurila, you can take trunk bus 570, which runs to an area near Valkoisenlähteentie in Jokiniemi, close to Hiekkaharju station. At other stations, the buses will stop at the stops designated for replacement buses. You can check the locations of the stops for replacement buses in the HSL area on the map posters at stations as well as in the Journey Planner.  Maps of the stations are also available on the Printable maps and timetables page.

The changes are part of a larger project

The track works are part of a project to increase the rail capacity between Helsinki and Riihimäki. The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of the busiest section of railway in Finland and to reduce the line’s vulnerability to disruptions. Once the works carried out by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency are completed, there will be four tracks between Kerava and Riihimäki.
