A strike by VR’s train drivers halts commuter train services on Thursday 18 March and Friday 19 March. The drivers will not come to work on Thursday and Friday. Train services are expected to resume on Saturday 20 March at about 5am. Services will return to normal gradually and some early morning services may be cancelled.

HSL is not arranging replacement services. You can search for alternative routes using the Journey Planner; untick the train option in the planner’s settings. HSL’s customer service on +358 9 4766 4000 will open an hour earlier than usual on Thursday and Friday,  i.e. at 6.30am.

Because there is a risk that buses become overcrowded, we ask people to avoid using public transport if possible. In this way we can ensure as safe and smooth journeys as possible for those who need to travel. We want to ensure the health security of passengers on public transport in the exceptional circumstances.

VR commuter tickets  and HSL's single and season tickets are accepted on long-distance trains within the commuter train service area. In the HSL area, long-distance trains stop at Tikkurila, Pasila and Leppävaara stations as well as at the Helsinki Central Railway Station. Some coastal line long-distance trains stop at Kirkkonummi station. On Friday evening, long-distance trains to Helsinki stop at Kirkkonummi at 6.55pm and 9.55pm. However, VR may restrict the use of long-distance trains if required. Information about train services is available e.g. at junalahdot.fi. Read more about travel on long-distance trains on VR's website (vr.fi).

We will be monitoring the situation on Thursday and Friday and publish any updates on this page.
